Homestead 1/2 Beef Share
Buying Meat in bulk as a Quarter or Half Animal share is the most economical way to source the highest quality meat, raised regeneratively and organically, and in direct support of your land stewards.
An investment in our meats is an investment in your health, the health of our soils, our waterways, and our food communities. Your investment provides good jobs and living wages. Your investment secures your food source despite market disruptions in the commodity food chains. Your investment supports diversified food systems that are resilient.
Our grass-fed and grass finished beef is raised here on our farm organically, regeneratively and harvested on-site. The cattle are rotationally grazed and enjoy all the treats of living on a vegetable production farm. Our cattle are never fed a grain diet, or given antibiotics or even dewormers. Our cattle are finished on a higher carb grain hay that provides a very nice balanced finish to grass-finished beef.
PRICE BY SHARE SIZE
Half Beef: $8.00 per lb (average hanging weight ~ 440-500 lbs)
Prices INCLUDES harvest, cut and wrap, bones and fat.
Please note the listed price is a **DEPOSIT** for your share, cost is based on hanging weight of the Quarter, Half or Whole share you purchase. This Deposit secures your share and covers some of our investments in feed, fencing and husbandry. The balance due will be calculated at time of Harvest.
When the animals are harvested, you will be contacted to give your preference of custom cuts. Some people like more steaks, other prefer more roasts, or more ground beef.
AVERAGE MEAT YIELD BY SHARE SIZE:
Animal shares are sold by the Hanging Weight of the Animal, this is how “Custom Exempt” meat sales work legally. Below are the approximate yields of the take home meat by share size
Quarter Beef: ~120-150 lbs of take home meat
Half Beef: ~260-300 lbs of take home meat
All animal shares offer not just meat cuts, but also the bones and fat for rendering into tallow or lard for cooking as well!
HOW MUCH FREEZER SPACE WILL I NEED?
Freezers come in four basic sizes: compact (5 cubic feet), small (6 to 9 cubic feet), medium (12 to 18 cubic feet) and large (18 to 25 cubic feet).
One cubic foot of freezer space will hold approximately 30 pounds of meat.
Here are recommendations for cubic feet needed based on size of Meat Share:
Quarter Beef - 4 Cubic Feet
Half Beef - 8 Cubic Feet
